June Reading

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.  I was prepared to not like this novel.  It’s popular, the author set out to write a best seller and it’s very dark.  But I was drawn in and enjoyed it.  I have ordered the next one, too.

The Land of Painted Caves by Jean M Auel.  The newest novel in the Earth’s Children series.  I found that this one was very repetitive within the series and within the novel and there really wasn’t anything new except lots of descriptions of cave paintings.

Between a Rock and a Hot Place: why fifty is not the new thirty by Tracey Jackson.  A funny look at what it’s like to be a woman in her fifties.  I don’t agree with all of it, but it’s nice to have another’s perspective.

The Girl Who Played With Fire by Steig Larsson.  Yup, it’s a good read and very captivating.

The Bucolic Plague: How two Manhattanites became gentlemen farmers by Josh Kilmer-Purcell.  This is a great read about how 2 people transformed their lives; the hard work that went into it and about following their dreams.  Very funny.  Also an examination of perfection and the toll it takes and the impossibility of ever actually reaching it mostly because of how we all perceive perfection differently.

The Three Success Factors

I have worked closely with 100’s of business owners and I have seen too many struggle. I have seen what works and what doesn't.

It takes 3 things to succeed:
1. Hard work - and I know you do that already.
2. Knowledge - domain knowledge: you've got that and continue to learn; and business knowledge: this is where everyone focuses and it's easy to find
3. Mindset - This is the killer app. This is what makes or breaks small business owners.

We work on Mindset here at the Business Owners Success Club: how you think about yourself and your business.

When you focus on a business that gives you what you need to live a Good Life and gives others what they need to solve a problem, everything else falls into place and you have a successful business.

Using that as a framework we work on one aspect of business every month. February is "Your Place in Your Community" month.

In March we will open the doors to our online community. Stay Tuned.
