April Reading

It’s hard to believe that it is May.  April went by in a whirl of taxes and garden prep. (http://crystalclarion.wordpress.com/ my Good Life blog)

That Summer in Paris: memories of tangled friendships with Hemingway, Fitzgerald and some others by Morley Callaghan.  Makes you wonder where the new Paris is and who the new intelligentsia are.

Laura Rider’s Masterpiece: a novel by Jane Hamilton.  It’s a novel about a woman writing a novel.  It’s funny with a bit of ‘be careful what you wish for’.

A Woman’s Worth by Marianne Williamson.  We need to grow into our femininity and value ourselves for being women.

Cool Water: a Novel by Dianne Warren.  Have you noticed how novels now have a Novel written on the cover?  Interesting.  This is the day in a life of a small town on the Prairies in Canada.  All about the people.  I enjoyed it.

About Face: a Commisario Guido Brunetti Mystery by Donna Leon.  A novel about Venice.  I’m hoping to be there in 2 weeks.

Do the Work by Steven Pressfield. Published by Domino Project. This is a followup and workbook for the War of Art.  Published through the Domino Project http://www.thedominoproject.com/books

The Black Cat: a Richard Jury Mystery by Martha Grimes.  I love mysteries and enjoy Martha Grimes’ novels.

This month it’s mostly novels, I mentioned the taxes thing, right?  Plus I find I need to cleanse my brain palate, as it were, occasionally.

Do the Work is an excellent read. Besides the push to just get out there and do something, I love the insight on having a single page to define a project.

The Three Success Factors

I have worked closely with 100’s of business owners and I have seen too many struggle. I have seen what works and what doesn't.

It takes 3 things to succeed:
1. Hard work - and I know you do that already.
2. Knowledge - domain knowledge: you've got that and continue to learn; and business knowledge: this is where everyone focuses and it's easy to find
3. Mindset - This is the killer app. This is what makes or breaks small business owners.

We work on Mindset here at the Business Owners Success Club: how you think about yourself and your business.

When you focus on a business that gives you what you need to live a Good Life and gives others what they need to solve a problem, everything else falls into place and you have a successful business.

Using that as a framework we work on one aspect of business every month. February is "Your Place in Your Community" month.

In March we will open the doors to our online community. Stay Tuned.
