Grinnin’ Grasshopper Macro

I just finished reading the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho again. It’s the story of a shepherd boy, Santiago. He has a dream that if he goes to the pyramids from his home in Spain, he will find a hidden treasure. The book is the story of his journey, the people he meets along the way and the trials he overcomes. Many of the people he meets along the way have given up on following their dreams. The Alchemist he meets tells him, “Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.” The book is a celebration of the joy of a life spent following your own dream.

As you think about the times that make you happy about the last year. Are they steps along the way to your dream? If they aren’t how can they be? How can you weave more of those times into your coming year?

Today’s post over at Zen Habits is about being Inspired and grinning while you do what you love.

Meeting you and the other triiibesters face to face in NYC is the thing that brings the fondest memories (but there are lots of others too). A lot of it has to do with my quest to figure out what makes my eyes sparkle and then get to doing that all the time (instead of in my spare time)!

Definitely a high lite! That was a great way to start off the year. I’m working towards May in Slovenia right now.

Connie and I decided we want to go to cool conferences, meet neat people and read awesome books. Let’s put our heads together and figure this out. I think Chris Taylor is pretty close.

The Three Success Factors

I have worked closely with 100’s of business owners and I have seen too many struggle. I have seen what works and what doesn't.

It takes 3 things to succeed:
1. Hard work - and I know you do that already.
2. Knowledge - domain knowledge: you've got that and continue to learn; and business knowledge: this is where everyone focuses and it's easy to find
3. Mindset - This is the killer app. This is what makes or breaks small business owners.

We work on Mindset here at the Business Owners Success Club: how you think about yourself and your business.

When you focus on a business that gives you what you need to live a Good Life and gives others what they need to solve a problem, everything else falls into place and you have a successful business.

Using that as a framework we work on one aspect of business every month. February is "Your Place in Your Community" month.

In March we will open the doors to our online community. Stay Tuned.
